Lyrics

A wanna be gangster
Thinkin’ he’s a wise guy
Rob another bank
He’s a sock ‘em in the eye guy
Tank head
Mr. Bonnie and Clyde guy
Lock him in the eye
He’s not my kinda guy
Never wanna be
Confusion proof
Puddings sweet
But too aloof
Orange eye girl
With blackslide dew said
“Yo homie
Who you talkin to?”
A backed up paddywagon
Mackin’ on a cat’s ass
One upper cut
To the cold upper middle class
Born to storm
On boredom’s face
And a little lust
To the funky ass flea bass
Most in the race
Just lose their grace
The blackest hole
In all of space
Crooked as a hooker
Now suck my thumb
Anybody wanna come get some

If you have to ask
You’ll never know
Funky motherfuckers
Will not be told to go
If you have to ask
You’ll never know
Funky motherfuckers
Will not be told to go (oh woh woh)

Don’t ask me why
I’m flying so high
Mr. bubble meets superfly
In my third eye
Searching for a soul bride
She’s my freakette
Soak it up inside
Deeper than a secret
Much more
Than meets the eye
To the funk
I fall into my new ride
My hand my hand
Magic on the one
Is a medicine man
Thinkin’ of a few
Taboos that I ought to kill
Dancin’ on their face
Like a stage on vaudeville
I feel so good
Can’t be understood
Booty of a hoodlum
Rockin’ my red hood

If you have to ask
You’ll never know
Funky motherfuckers
Will not be told to go
If you have to ask
You’ll never know
Funky motherfuckers
Will not be told to go (oh woh woh)

Lyrics

I used to shout
Across the room to you
And you’d come dancin’
Like a fool
Shuffle step
You funky mother
Come to me
All warm as covers

Rest with me
My lovely brother
For you see
There is no other
Memory so sad and sweet
I’ll see you soon
Save me a seat

Well I’m cryin’
Now my lovely man
Yes I’m cryin’
Now and no one can
Ever fill the
The hole you left my man
I’ll see you later
My lovely man if I can

In my room
I’m all alone
Waiting for you
To get home
Listen to Roberta Flack
But I know you won’t come back

Well I’m cryin’
Now my lovely man
I’ll see you later
My lovely man if I can

Just in case
You never knew
I miss you slim
I love you too
See my heart
It’s black and blue
When I die
I will find you

Well I’m cryin’
Now my lovely man
Yes I’m cryin’
Now and no one can
Ever fill the
The hole you left my man
I’ll see you later
My lovely man if I can

Well I’m cryin’
My lovely man
Well I’m cryin’
My lovely man
I’ll see you later
My lovely man
We have some good time

Lyrics

I’ve got a mellowship, I’ve got a fellowship
I’ve got a nonstop yo swan hello chip
Born to adore the big bad bison
Thunderstorm and a man like Tyson
Popcorn peanuts lookin’ at big butts
No, I cannot keep my mouth shut
Rockin’ to the beat of the fabulous forum
My Lakers I adore ‘em
Blush my lady when I tell her
That I do indeed love to smell her
Sopping wet your pink umbrella
Do the dog with Isabella

I’m so in love yes with an artist
Imagination, he’s the smartest
Robert Williams, stroke and splatter
I attest to your gray matter
Living kings how true it rings
These are just a few of my favorite things

Good god, where’s my sleigh now
Good god, playing for days now
Good god, any day now
Good god, take me away now
Good god, purple haze now
Good god, the baddest of brains now
Good god, any day now
Good god, ridin’ my sleigh now

Being that I’m the duke of my domain
My hat goes off to Mark Twain
Singing a song about what true men don’t do
Killing another creature, that’s kind of blue
Writing about the world of the wild coyote
Goodman Truman Capote
Talking about my thoughts ’cause they must grow
Cock my brain to shoot my load
I’m on my porch ’cause I lost my house key
Pick up my book, I read Bukowski
Can I get another kiss from you
Kiss me right here on my tattoo

Good god, where’s my sleigh now
Good god, playing for days now
Good god, any day now
Good god, take me away now
Good god, De Niro’s insane now
Good god, rackin’ my brain now
Good god, any day now
Good god, take me away now
Take me away
Ah yea

Me my friends and the sex machine
Do unto others like my brother’s bean
I know you’ve got a mother
So give her a hug
I know you’ve got a mother
With a whole lot of love
Billy sings and Basie swings
These are just a few of my favorite things

These are just a few of my favorite things
These are just a few of my favorite things
These are just a few

Lyrics

Father can you hear me?
How have I let you down?
I curse the day that I was born
And all the sorrow in this world

Let me take you to the herding ground
Where all good men are trampled down
Just to settle a bet that could not be won
Between a prideful father and his son

Will you guide me now for I can’t see
A reason for the suffering and this long misery
What if every living soul could be upright and strong?
Well then I do imagine

There will be sorrow
Yeah, there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

When all soldiers lay their weapons down
Or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
Or when the only true messiah rescues us from ourselves
It’s easy to imagine

There will be sorrow
Yeah, there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

There will be sorrow
Yeah, there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

Yeah, there will be sorrow
Yeah, there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

Lyrics

Love spreads her arms, waits there for the nails
I forgive you, boy, I will prevail
Too much to take, come cross to bear
I’m hiding in the trees with a picnic, she’s over there, yeah

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

She didn’t scream, she didn’t make a sound
I forgive you boy, but don’t leave town
Cold black skin, naked in the rain
Hammer flash in the lightning, they’re hurting her again

Let me put you in the picture, let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister, ain’t no king man, she’s my queen

I have a dream, I’ve seen the light
Don’t put it out, say she’s alright, yeah, she’s my sister

She didn’t scream, she didn’t make a sound
I forgive you boy, but don’t leave town
Cold black skin, naked in the rain
Hammer flash in the lightning, they’re hurting her again
Oh, oh, ooh
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Let me put you in the picture, let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister, ain’t no king man, she’s my queen

I have a dream, I’ve seen the light
Don’t put it out, say she’s alright, yeah, she’s my sister

Lyrics

Breathe in for luck
Breathe in so deep
This air is blessed
You share with me
This night is wild
So calm and dull
These hearts they race
From self control
Your legs are smooth
As they graze mine
We’re doing fine
We’re doing nothing at all

My hopes are so high
That your kiss might kill me
So won’t you kill me
So I die happy
My heart is yours to fill or burst
To break or bury
Or wear as jewelery
Which ever you prefer

The words are hushed:
“Let’s not get busted”
Just lay entwined here
Undiscovered
Safe in here from
All the stupid questions
“Hey did you get some?”
Man, that is so dumb
Stay quiet, stay near
Stay close they can’t hear
So we can get some

My hopes are so high
That your kiss might kill me
So won’t you kill me
So I die happy
My heart is yours
To fill or burst
To break or bury
Or wear as jewelery
Whichever you prefer

Hands down this is the best day I can ever remember
I’ll always remember the sound of the stereo
The dim of the soft lights
The scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers
And the time on the clock when we realized it’s so late
And this walk that we shared together
The streets were wet
And the gate was locked so I jumped it
And I let you in
And you stood at your door with your hands on my waist
And you kissed me like you meant it
And I knew that you meant it
That you meant it
That you meant it
And I knew
That you meant it
That you meant it

You gotta keep ‘em seperated

Like the latest fashion
Like a spreading disease
The kids are strapin’ on the way to their classroom
Getting weapons with the greatest of ease

The gangs stake their own campus locale
And if they catch you slippin then it’s all over pal
If one guy colors and the other’s don’t mix
They’re gonna bash it up, bash it up, bash it up, bash it up

Hey! Man you talkin’ back to me?
Take him out (You gotta keep ‘em seperated)
Hey! Man you desrespectin’ me?
Take him out (You gotta keep ‘em seperated)
Hey, they don’t pay no mind
If you’re under 18 you won’t be doing any time
Hey! Come out and play

By the time you hear the siren
It’s already to late
One goes to the mourge and the other in jail
One guy’s wasted and the other’s a waste
It goes down the same as the thousand before
No one’s getting smarter
No one’s learning the score
Your never ending spree of death and violence and hate
Is gonna tie your own rope, tie your own rope, tie your own…

Hey! Man you desrespectin’ me?
Take him out (You gotta keep ‘em seperated)
Hey! Man you talkin’ back to me?
Take him out (You gotta keep ‘em seperated)
Hey, they don’t pay no mind
You’re under 18 you won’t be doing any time
Hey! Come out and play

It goes down the same as the thousand before

Hey! Man you desrespectin’ me?

Lyrics

Checked the clock when I got home and realized I was alone.
Sat for hours by the window wonderin’ where did ya go?
Couldn’t eat or sleep at all took the pictures off the wall.
Paced the place as time moves slow and I’m wondering
Where did ya go?
Where’d ya go?
Where’d ya go?
I wanna know!
Lit a cigarette I couldn’t smoke
Wound the clock until it broke.
Went to bed then took a shower, stared at TV for an hour.
Did the dishes, made the bed.
Read a book I never read.
Any minute you will show and I’m wondering where did ya go?
Where’d ya go?
Where’d ya go?
I wanna know!
I opened the fridge, I opened a beer, played a tape I couldn’t hear.
Emptiness began to grow and I’m wondering where did ya go?
Watched the sun come up from the back stairs.
Thought about the last few years.
I lost control
I screamed, I cried
I punched a hole and went inside.
Packed my things, called a friend.
Wished this emptiness would end.
Wrote a note then tore it up, poured the beer into a cup.
Sat on the couch, drank it slow, wondering where did ya go?
Realized I couldn’t stay, I grabbed my things and went away.
Where’d you go?
Where’d you go?
I wanna kno

Lyrics

Looking out a dirty old window
Down below the cars in the city go rushing by
I sit here alone and I wonder why

Friday night and everyone’s moving
I can feel the heat but it’s soothing, heading down
I search for the beat in this dirty town

Down town the young ones are going
Down town the young ones are growing

We’re the kids in America, wo-oh
We’re the kids in America, wo-oh
Everybody live for the music-go-round

Bright lights, the music gets faster
Look boy, don’t check on your watch, not another glance
I’m not leaving now, honey not a chance

Hot-shot, give me no problems
Much later baby you’ll be saying “never mind”
You know life is cruel, life is never kind

Kind hearts don’t make a new story
Kind hearts don’t grab any glory

We’re the kids in America, wo-oh
We’re the kids in America, wo-oh
Everybody live for the music-go-round

Nanana nananana
Nanana nanana, say!
Nanana nananana
Nanana nanana

Come closer, honey that’s better
Got to get a brand new experience feeling right
Oh don’t try to stop, baby, hold me tight

Outside a new day is dawning
Outside Suburbia’s sprawling everywhere
I don’t want to go baby

New York to east California
There’s a new wave coming, I warn ya

We’re the kids in America, wo-oh
We’re the kids in America, wo-oh
Everybody live for the music-go-round

Nanana nananana
Nanana nanana, say!
Nanana nananana
Nanana nanana

We’re the kids
We’re the kids
We’re the kids in America

We’re the kids
We’re the kids
We’re the kids in America

We’re the kids
We’re the kids
We’re the kids in America

We’re the kids
We’re the kids…

Lyrics

Early one mornin’ the sun was shinin’,
I was layin’ in bed
Wond’rin’ if she’d changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama’s homemade dress
Papa’s banquet wasn’t big enough.
And I was standin’ on the side of the road
Rain fallin’ on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I’ve paid some dues gettin’ through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin’ away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
“We’ll meet again someday on the avenue,”
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin’ for a while on a fishin’ boat
Right outside of Delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin’ in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin’ at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I’s just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, “Don’t I know your name?”
I muttered somethin’ underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
“I thought you’d never say hello,” she said
“You look like the silent type.”
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin’ coal
Pourin’ off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now I’m goin’ back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
They’re an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter’s wives.
Don’t know how it all got started,
I don’t know what they’re doin’ with their lives.
But me, I’m still on the road
Headin’ for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.
